After her two little adopted daughters, husband, parents, and sisters were murdered; Catherine has always blamed the Torchwood Institute for their deaths. She used to work for UNIT as a medical specialist, but is now a member of the Phoenix Society. She is bitter, needless to say, and has a sharp tongue. All of her motherly or kind emotions have ceased to exist after watching her family be tortured by an alien face and slaughtered.
