It had been a whole year since it happened. A whole year since the terror washed through the minds of every single human being on the planet Earth; since everyone clung to their children in hopes that they would not be taken away from them and never to be seen or heard from again by all they one knew. It had been a whole year since armed and suited up men and women rammed down the doors of people's homes and the classrooms across the world; then dragging the youth to their mysterious doom and prying the devastated families farther and farther away from the innocents we cherish most. It had been a year since the lies were told to protect - - or so they said - - the people of Earth by those we are supposed to be able to trust and keep us safe. Twelve months; three hundred and sixty five days and a quarter ago the people of the world lost the ability to trust anyone as the future of mankind, ten percent of the children of Earth would never been seen again.
The day being saved - - if one could call it that - - everything seemed to go back to normal. Schools reopened, people went back to work and the government even managed to get the majority of the population back in their false trust. The cockroaches that were humans were back to scurrying around as if nothing had happened. We could rebuild. Everyone returned to the only way we knew how. We call it Normal. Even Gwen Cooper and Rhys Williams: she gave birth to the foreseen baby boy which they named Alexander Cooper-Williams. Having a happy, bouncing baby in the house certainly helped when attempting to make the pain of past loss go numb. Gwen had lost her friends; Tosh, Owen, Ianto and Jack, almost as quickly as they had arrived into her life.
The sightings of odd and peculiar happenings and people started to occur even more than usual in Cardiff. Worse yet, witnesses all over the world proclaimed that strange occurrences were taking place. The rift was splintering; its cracks veining all around the planet. The very last member of the very last Torchwood watched the news; she read the papers. The signs were clear. With the rift expanding even further, it was time for her to rebuild. It was time for Torchwood to begin once more, and for Gwen to continue the cause of protecting the fragility of the human race.
So a year since the 456 had terrorized and terrified the planet Earth, Torchwood was back to work once more.
