full name | Ianto Jones nicknames & titles | Teaboy, Coffeeboy age | 27 (at time of death) sexuality | bisexual species | human occupation | formerly Junior Researcher at Torchwood One, coffee/teaboy turned field agent at Torchwood Three, currently Torchwood Three's computer...
family information |- FATHER - Elidyr Jones
Ianto never had much of a relationship with his father. Eventually, their relationship got so strained that he wasn't too sorry when his old man kicked the bucket. He just wanted out of the house.
- MOTHER - Elain Jones
Ianto's relationship with his mother started out fine, then started to get weird when his father's did. By the time his father died, their relationship had hit an all time low, and they weren't really on speaking terms. Another reason to just get out of the house.
- SISTER - Rhiannon Davies
Ianto still kept in touch with Rhiannon, though he had to be quite a bit distant from her because of his job with Torchwood. Rhiannon acted as one of his last ties to the world outside of Torchwood.
residence | Cardiff, then London as part of Torchwood One, then back to Cardiff in Torchwood Three, and now inside the Torchwood Three computer
physical description | Ianto was a rather plain looking man. Standing at about 5'10" (177 cm) and weighing in at about 155 lbs (70 kg), he didn't really stand out much. He never really cared about his looks through his younger years and even now, though he preferred to look snappy and presentable everywhere he went, especially at work. He kept his medium brown hair short and manageable, rather than letting it get long like Jack's, or even long enough to pull back into a ponytail. His blue irises sparkled with life, reaching out to the object of his gaze for any sort of recognition. Those eyes sat just below his pronounced brow that led up into a slightly larger than normal forehead. His jaw was square and defined. Though he was never much of an expressive person, some of his emotion did end up written all over his face. He would always consciously lock away the important things, however, and nobody would ever find out.
Ianto always wore a nice suit to work, complete with nice shoes, a good shirt and a tie. Usually pinstriped and black, the suits wouldn't change too much, but he did occasionally swap out the shirt and tie. He was quite a big fan of blue and white, though there was the occasional dark pink shirt and matching tie. Sometimes, he would skip the jacket and just go with a nice vest of some sort. Depending on his mood, he'd button it up, leave it unbuttoned, or maybe even take it off completely. When he was on field missions, he'd dress more appropriately to the situation. Camping, for instance, found him in more casual clothing, rather than all of the formality of the suit.
Yet now, as he's just another part of the computer, the closest he can get to any real human appearance is a projected hologram. And even then, he can't seem to work it right. He ends up going all fuzzy at random moments, and sometimes even cuts off in the middle of a word. He'll get it soon enough though. He's got nothing else to do. played by | Gareth David-Lloyd

- If we could sit together a moment and talk forever just to pass the time
Ianto's relationship with Captain Jack started out as a simple one -- a hug here, a kiss there -- but after Jack left for months on end, the two men started to push the relationship further. Jack asked Ianto out on a date, which he accepted, and it became not just a sexual relationship, but one of love, as well. It went on like that for a while, but it was tragically cut short when the 456 released their virus into the Thames House. As Ianto lay dying in Jack's arms, his last words were "I love you." Jack is the only man Ianto has ever been attracted to in that way, and Ianto hopes that their love will live on, through death and suffering. Part of him hoped that Jack would get over him, but now that he isn't exactly dead, he wants to be with Jack again. Though that would be kind of hard, as Ianto's stuck in the computer...
- Chase your dreams and remember me, sweet bravery
Ianto's death and subsequent revival -- though how much of a revival is hard to say -- has tweaked aspects of his personality. Before, he wasn't all too much of a fan of procrastination, but he occasionally put things off that he could have done that day. Now, he abhors it and would rather pack an insane amount of things into one day. His fear of death has skyrocketed to the point where it's his number one fear. There was something moving in the darkness, and it terrified him. He has become more forceful with what he says and suggests, rather than sort of meek and self-effacing, as he used to be. He's also gotten to be quite a bit more in tune with technology, as well as the Hub computer that he currently is a part of. His death has given him a new respect for Jack, as he now has a very small grasp of what his captain goes through every time he dies and comes back.
- Wander down the street, and I’d be the pavement beneath your feet
Ianto has never gotten much respect from his teammates while part of any Torchwood branch, really. Lisa was the only one who took notice of him, and they eventually fell in love. Even though, in Torchwood Three, he was pretty much the gas that made the machine run, they treated him like a maid or servant, merely there to clean up after everyone and make coffee, tea, or whatever they wanted. A bit of a meaningless existence, yes, but after Jack left and came back -- Jack still had never told anyone about what had happened while he was gone, something Ianto found quite odd, but had never wanted to bring up -- Ianto started to demand more respect for himself. His relationship with Jack helped immensely in that regard, and it even helped him to become an essential part of the team in the field as well as the Hub.
- Home will always be here, unseen, out of sight
Ianto is still generally withdrawn as a person, preferring to keep his emotions and his thoughts to himself rather than sharing them with his colleagues. Jack is the only one that he'll express himself with, other than occasional talks with Gwen. He usually keeps to himself around the other members of Torchwood Three, only answering their questions and helping them with whatever they're doing when they ask of his help. Otherwise, he usually just stays out of their way, letting them do whatever it is that they want, as long as they're not going to do something stupid or odd. Though, that usually didn't happen, as they were part of the Torchwood Three team rather than simple tourists. Even so, if one of them was about to do something wrong, like sniffing the sub-etheric resonator, he'd pipe up and say something about it. If he sees someone doing something weird, he might investigate a bit, but that's all.
- My loving heart lost in the dark
Ianto has a darker side to his personality, though he usually keeps it under tight wraps, so nobody ends up seeing it. He doesn't like anyone to see it, mainly because he doesn't think that they'll like him much if they see it. He's overly conscious of people's opinions of him, and so he still censors parts of himself and his life to please them. He's usually truthful with Jack, but only after intense prodding and pushing. There wasn't much of this side of him that was brought to light before he died in the Thames House. After his death, though, elements of this darker side leaked out, making him more forceful and more afraid of death. He still suppresses most of it, though if he's thoroughly shaken enough, he'll slip and let it out. Occasionally, he'll revert to the way he was before joining up with Torchwood -- a lonely little boy.
- Can you feel the drops as it starts to rain?
As Ianto is now a consciousness in the Hub computer, he doesn't exactly have a physical body anymore. It hasn't impacted him too much, but the absence of physical contact -- and three out of his five senses; he can't smell, taste or feel anything -- has desensitized him a bit, no pun intended. Being tied to the Hub computer, any sort of hologram -- or astral projection, but he's not too great at it yet -- can't leave the premises. The farthest he can go is walking about in Roald Dahl Plass, and even then it's dangerous. The farther he goes from the computer, the more strenuous it is on the computer. Because of this, he gets quite restless and goes wandering around, exploring every basement and every corner of the Hub until he can wander around with his eyes closed. He can't sleep either, and even if the computer is turned off, he can still get the computer to function, though minimally at best.
- Open your eyes and see everything you could be
In the matter of self-esteem, Ianto falls quite a bit short of the average. He doesn't think he does much to help the team, besides updating them on current events, giving them tips on where strange things have surfaced in the UK, and running some of Tosh's old software to monitor things around the Hub. He's become quite an essential part of the team, actually, before his death and even after his revival. He doesn't believe he's going to amount to anything, either. Ever. He doesn't express this fact, though, tying into his typically withdrawn nature. No matter what people say, he doesn't think he's going to be able to realize that he's actually part of the team, rather than just the computer or the coffee boy, like he was. As long as Jack's there with him, dealing with the same things and working together, like they always have, then he doesn't need to. His world is complete.

history | Ianto's childhood was fairly normal. His mother was doting and his sister was annoying, yet loving. He had quite a bit of a strained relationship with his father, however, and this caused for quite a bit of tension around the house. As a result, young Ianto grew up quite withdrawn, even from his friends. His father died sometime before going off to college, and Ianto left the house quite quickly after that. He didn't want to stay there if there was nothing keeping him there. It wasn't just his father anymore; he'd been on sore relations with his entire family as of late. Ianto took on a series of jobs, before ending up as a Junior Researcher at Torchwood One.
There, he started going out with Lisa Hallett, and was present during the Battle of Canary Wharf. Lisa ended up getting partially cyber-converted, and Ianto was devastated. He turned a cyber-conversion unit into life support for her and smuggled her into the basement of Torchwood Three, led by Captain Jack Harkness. The team ended up finding out about her when her cyber-implants took over her mind. She tried to upgrade them all, and even took over the body of a pizza delivery girl before being shot by the rest of the team, as Ianto couldn't bring himself to kill her.
Relations with the rest of the team were starting to get rough after that, but he found solace from his menial labor in Jack Harkness. Jack seemed to have an interest in him, though it seemed, at first, to be little more than a passing fancy. Ianto soon found himself quite attached to the man whom he liked to refer to as "his captain," and it had gotten quite confusing. Just what were they to each other? Ianto really didn't know. It was only after Jack had left and came back that things started to get serious. Jack asked him out on a date, and that was that.
After Owen and Tosh had died, it was starting to get quite lonely around the Hub. He and Jack had stepped up their relationship, though, and everything was going great. He was still quite a bit affected by his teammates' deaths, and he missed them quite terribly. That was when things started getting so much worse. The 456 came back to Earth and demanded that they give up a certain percentage of the children of Earth. Naturally, the Earth refused, but with it came quite a price. The British government had attacked the Hub and blown it up, with Jack inside. Ianto and Jack eventually threatened the 456 Ambassador, though the response wasn't what they had expected. The 456 released a deadly virus into the air, the Thames House locked itself, and Ianto ended up dying in Jack's arms, his last words, "I love you."
And then came the day he woke up. All was silent in the newly rebuilt Hub. Everyone had gone home for the night, except for Jack, of course. He always stayed. It was like he lived there. Knowing him, he probably did. The constant drone of the computer filled the air, resounding through the empty Hub. Most of the lights were turned off, casting deep shadows along the floor. The water tower was flowing as always, its gentle, soothing sound merging with the drone of the computer.
Ianto Jones slowly became aware of himself, like waking up from a deep sleep. When he could finally see, it was in black and white. Weird. He blinked, and his vision changed. It had gone from one part of the Hub to another. Really weird. What was going on? There was something important that he was forgetting. What was it? Oh yeah. He was supposed to be dead. Was this heaven, or wherever people went after they died? He doubted it. It looked like the Hub. Surely heaven wouldn't be the Hub. Though he wasn't sure. He still had a lot to figure out. What was going on here?
